Of course they can if the focus of their business is maintained to focus on the satisfaction of their customers, not soley on corporate gain.
References :
my own business experience, cuz my business stands alone in its field.

Absolutely. That doesn't mean that the opposite can't happen as well. If the product/service is great and the employees are well-trained, knowledgable and friendly, it makes sense that the company could have a potential monopoly BECAUSE of these reasons. Once they've reached the top, if they maintain these standards, they can still have great company-customer relationships. Personally I don't think Wal-Mart has this. I think they bully the companies whose products they sell and take advantage of their employees. This gives them a negative image which turns customers off. On the other hand, you can return your GRANDMOTHER to Wal-Mart and they'll take her (no questions asked), so this certainly helps customer relations.
References :
Do you think a company can become a sort of "monopoly," and maintain a good company-customer relationship?
For example take these two companies: Wal-Mart and 7-11. They are both everywhere, and both like stay open 24/7!

However, in most Wal-Marts, I find their customer relationship to be poor. The service is usually very unorganized, bad, and your more of just a number, whereas in a place like 7-11, I think theirs is good. It is usually clean, and you at least get a chance to interact with the cashier in front of you. So, do you think a business can become a “monopoly” and still keep a good company-customer relationship?
